FAQs
Your Questions Answered
What does an assessment involve?
This varies depending on the type and purpose of the assessment. Most of the time, this will be a meeting with you and also your child to get to understand more about their history and what has brought you for an assessment. Following this, typically there are some questionnaires for parents and teachers to complete. I will then spend some time with your child and use some tasks (mainly quizzes and puzzles) that help me understand how your child can perform various cognitive skills.
How long does an assessment take?
This is a really tricky one to answer. It depends on a number of factors, such as your child's age, what the purpose of the assessment is, how in-depth you need the assessment to be (e.g. would you like just a screen for ADHD or a full assessment?). Please do get in touch for a free 15 minute conversation, which should allow me to provide you with an estimated time for the work needed
How do I get the results?
This is up to you! Typically what happens is there will be a summary report provided that includes the outcome of the assessment and any recommendations that may be helpful. In addition to this, I can offer another appointment to go through the results with you in detail and answer any questions you have. I can also feedback the results to teachers/school, so that they can better understand your child's skills.
What happens after an assessment?
This depends on the type and purpose of the assessment. For most of the assessments I carry out, I include recommendations for next steps. Sometimes this may be requesting the school to make adaptations (such as extra time in exams), or it may be a recommendation for your school to get an educational psychologist in to support with more advanced adaptations, sometimes it might be asking your GP to refer you onto local paediatrics or other services.
How much does it cost?
All of my services are charged at an hourly rate of £130 an hour. Depending on the type of assessment you need, will depend on the utlimate cost of your assessment. If you are worried about costs, please do get in touch for a free 15 minute conversation, which should allow me to provide you with an estimated quote for the work
